This is the cover I designed for Live in Texas, the live album Blaggards put out in 2010. The artwork was done in collaboration with Patrick Devlin and drummer Mike McAloon. The star design on the front is mine, and Mike did the high contrast photo on the back cover.
Patrick’s original idea for the front cover was more like a sheriff’s badge. We went through dozens of iterations before settling on this lone star design, but we agreed it was still missing something. Then Mike found this photo of a wooden fence, and I used Photoshop to make it look like the star was painted on the fence.
My favorite part of this design, though, was hidden inside: a close-up photo of Patrick’s tricolor Fender guitar cabinet, which he’d painted himself several years earlier.
